Best app to fool your friends - Make your Android Fart!

Finding gems in the app-crowded Android market isn't anyone's idea of fun and therefore we do these stuffs for you so you can enjoy the apps.
In our journey of finding gems, today we discovered an uber-cool application named Motion Fart which claims to make your device fart just by lifting your leg.

Does it Really Work as claimed ?
To the best of our knowledge - it does.
It doesn't work quite well with baggy pants and tight fitted jeans are recommended.

How do you use it ?
The interface is pretty clean with just two buttons. The bigger one is for farting on demand (when you put it in your pocket) and the other one is sort-of instantaneous fart.
It's very simple to use - just press the activate button and put it in your rear pocket.
Lift your leg up and - eww...it farts with different noises like squeaky fart, wet fart and loud fart!

How does it works ?
This app makes use of the accelerometer sensor on your device to recognize the orientation of your device and when you lift your leg,it reaches "certain orientation" and it farts!

Why does this app need so many permissions ?
If you are security conscious, this app may seem creepy at first because you may wonder why does a farting app need permission to your location?
It seems that the developer is aware of it and has posted why these creepy permissions are used in this app - (As posted on the Developer's website)

  • Network communication - This permission let's the app use the Internet in order to make contact with the advertisement agencies and retrieve ads.
  • Phone state and identity - This one is used to extract information about the phone your using. For example it finds out which mobile carrier you are using(T-mobile, Verizon etc.) and what phone type you are using. This is because some advertisements are for certain types of phone or certain types of providers only (let say you have a MOTOROLA Droid and the ad company wants to display ads for buying accessories for the MOTOROLA Droid).
  • Location - This is used for advertisement localizing. So for example if you live in Paris you might get advertisements in the french language. Or if you live in a Texas you can get ads about a store in Texas. To see where you are the phone usually uses the GPS.

Aakash tablet created a buzz online when it was announced in November 2011.
Claiming to be the world's cheapest tablet,it has already sold out 14million tabs during a month of it's launch.
Many users asked us whether they should buy one,so today we drop some views on these world cheapest tablet.

Aakash Tablet : Pricing

  • Market cost - Rs 3000 / $67
  • Government subsidised cost for students - Rs 1500 / $29

Aakash Tablet : The bad stuffs
  • Poor processor - The Aakash is equipped with a mere 336mHz Processor considering it's low cost. This makes the touch feel laggy and games cannot be played smoothly.
  • No multitasking - A No-multi-tasking means that you cannot play a game/check email/browse the web simultaneously
  • Poor display - The display is a No-HD one and it just looks poor with a low screen resolution and reflects light badly.

  • Software upgrades - The Akash is running Android 2.2,a 2-year-old version of the Android OS and there are no official upgrades provided.

  • Supports Multimedia (audio/video/images)

Aakash tablet : Availability

While the Aakash tablet (Ubislate7) is sold out completely, you can still buy Ubislate7+ which is the upgraded version available at Rs 3000/-
It will be available in the late January but You can pre-book from it's official website.

The Verdict

We would recommend you to buy Ubislate7+ which is a better version of the Aakash tablet with improved features like longer battery and more processor and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
If you are still not satisfied seeing the specifications,we would recommend you waiting till April when Aakash - II is set to be released.
Unless you are direly waiting for your first ever tablet,do not care to buy this cheap thing because the reason is simple - it wasn't made to impress - just to satisfy the need of the people who could not afford higher price-tagged tablets.

How to make your Android a Full Touch-screen device eliminating the hardware buttons

Physical hardware buttons have been a part of our Mobile devices since the beginning. But in recent times, the capacitive touch buttons have taken over'em as the new standard - recently launched Galaxy Nexus is a fine example.
If you are like us,who are sick of those "ugly" Physical buttons stuck to your device which are hard to press, this post if for you.
We'll explains it's better alternative - "on-screen" virtual touch buttons.

ButtonSaviour

This is the app which we've appointed as an alternative to those pesky physical buttons and it does pretty good job of emulating the hardware keys by displaying a full on-screen touch bar.

Features:

  • A fully functional free version.
  • 10 awesome themes from HTC's Sense UI to HoneyComb to match you style.
  • Can customize icon and button transparency and color.
  • Can change the Position of the floating bar.
The only prerequisite for this app to work is that - you need a rooted Phone.
Some buttons ,like the search buttons still work without root , but for most buttons to work, like the back and the home button,You need to Root - else it won't work.

Virtual Button Bar is another app which claims to do the same but it lacks the customisation features included in ButtonSaviour.
Feel Free to give it a try - it's worth it!

Conclusion

Both of these apps successfully replicate the hardware buttons and are quite handy to use - just in case you have broken your hardware buttons or don't feel like using them.
Now you can control the whole of your device with the awesomness of Full touch screen, brought to you by these apps.
We would love to know your nightmares with the hardware buttons and how these apps came to your rescue, drop in the comments and share the post with your friends!

How to Keep Your Android Phone Secure : The Ultimate guide

A few years ago,a phone was a phone. It was used to place call, send texts and therefore, security wasn't a problem. But today's smart Phones are like mini sized PC which can perform a vast number of operations. So it makes sense to Mobile security and we've complied ways by which you can keep yourself secure on your Android Phone.

Set-up a Phone Lock

While it may seem obvious, but it is the first step you need to take considering security. You may opt-in for a 4-digit number passscode or the shiny patented Pattern Lock.It takes a few seconds to set-up and unlock, but will keep most intruders out of your digital life.

Android Viruses Malware

Juniper Network reports that there had been an increase of about 432% in the Android malware and hence it becomes to necessary to protect your Phone.
Here are some of the common things that "bad applications" can do.
  • Automatically call/Text someone without the consent of the user.
  • The above will lead to unintentional deduction of your Mobile balance
  • "See" what you are typing and send it over to a third party.
  • Track your activities and spy on you.
Android Market is the home to over 4,00,000 apps and unlike the Apple's App store,Google does not keep a strict watch over the apps submitted.
Thereby, you can never download from the Market considering it as a "trusted source" and assume that you you will be safe regardless of what you download.

Before you download, ensure the following things : Take some time to read the apps ratings and user comments.

Identifying Malwares

Identifying malware is not as tough as it seems - you just need to have a look at the permissions the app is asking before installing.
Should you find any suspicious permission, research on the web for that app or simply cancel the installation. For example,Why should a game need permission to access and read/write my contacts?

  • We recommend that you use PermissionDog to identify the permissions being used by installed Applications.
  • (This is for Advanced users only and requires root permissions)
If you are a geek, you can go a step further and simply deny a permission an app is asking by using Permssions Denied.
For example,if a game is asking permissions to read/write contacts, you can simply deprieve the app this particular permission.
Please note that denying a permission to certain application can make them crash.

So we wouldn't go in detail.
Just remember to pick up a free antivirus like Lookout Security or AVG free to protect yourself. Although they may not be full-proof or may not catch every single malware, they certainly can help you at times and furthermore they also provide you with useful utitlites like Back-ups,remote wipe and Phone locator.

Finding your Lost Phone

You wake up to a Sunday morning only to find that you have lost you shiny new Android - how bad this would be?
So it is necessary that you install some kind of "mechanism" which helps you locate you lost phone.
We recommend that you install Android Lost (free) from the Android market. It has a bunch of features including :
  • Remotely read your SMS and forward them to you mail.
  • Send Remote control alarm to your phone.
  • Locate your phone on a map and lock/wipe it remotely
  • Remotely erase SD card and get notified when the SIM is changed.
  • And my favourite - convert text to speech and make your Phone speak - "Hey,i'm lost - Can you take me to my owner - contact 989057**** "
Of course this would work only if you have installed it earlier and then lost your Phone.
But what if you didn't install it and lost your device?
Well,Lookout has a tool for that - called "Plan B" - do check it out.

Conclusion

While there's no bullet-proof way to keep end-users safe, following the above guidelines should help.Remember that more than this tool, you common sense will help you keep your Digital life safe.
